Corning, Calif. – (September 19, 2024) – The Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians, through the Paskenta Nomlaki Foundation, hosted its seventh annual Wish Upon A Par Charity Golf Tournament today. More than 135 golfers attended the day-long tournament held at The Links at Rolling Hills Casino and Resort in Corning, California, supporting the charity event. Proceeds raised through the event will directly support and raise awareness for the Make- A-Wish® Northeastern & Central California and Northern Nevada chapter. The Tribe made the wishes of eight recipients come true.
“Our children embody the spirit of hope for our community, and we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our local leaders, sponsors, and donors who make dreams a reality through our local Make-A-Wish chapter,” said Andrew “Dru” Alejandre, Paskenta Nomlaki Foundation. “Today, we celebrate the journey of one such courageous child whose wish embodies the power of positivity and optimism.”
Since its inception, the Paskenta Nomlaki Foundation has raised over $300,000 through its annual Wish Upon A Par Charity Golf Tournament to support the local Make-A-Wish chapter. It has also granted wishes to more than 30 recipients with critical illness in the local community. This year, the charity event raised $50,000 in funds from community sponsors, donors, and more than 135 participating golfers to support Make-A-Wish.
“Witnessing the Tribe and its partners unite year after year to great wishes is a testament to the power of community and the magic we create when we come together for a cause as heartwarming as Make-A-Wish,” said Vanessa Alvarez, Foundation Coordinator of the Paskenta Nomlaki Foundation. “For the Paskenta Nomlaki Foundation, granting wishes through Make-A-Wish is more than an event; it’s a heartfelt commitment. We are deeply grateful for every partner and sponsor who joins us in this endeavor, turning dreams into reality and reminding these incredible children that they are loved, cherished, and never alone.”
The Paskenta Nomlaki Foundation also dedicated a special moment during the day-long tournament to surprise a recipient. Nine-year-old Angelee, who suffers from Leukemia, was excited to learn that she and her family will visit Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Angelee and her family were invited to attend the tournament.
