NOMLAQA BōDA I am Nomlaki

Our Government

Our government exists for one purpose:
to serve the Nomlaki people.

As a sovereign nation within the borders of the U.S., our Tribal government is independent of both federal and state laws, which allows us to establish Tribal policies that support our members and protect our resources. The Tribal government also oversees the management of our many Tribal enterprises.

We abide by a Tribal Constitution, the law of our land that was adopted on April 18, 1998. It sets out the roles and responsibilities of the Tribal Council and the General Council to provide for the long-term security and stability of the Tribe.

The Tribal Council consists of a Tribal Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, and a Member-at-Large. They are community-building advocates who create opportunities to strengthen the collective Tribe and serve as the day-to-day decision makers.

The General Council is the ultimate authority on legislation and policy, and it elects the five members of the Tribal Council.
